Noida Residents Allege Inactive Public Representatives, Seek Greater Accountability in City Development

Noida residents have voiced concerns over unresolved civic issues, alleging inadequate engagement by local public representatives and excessive centralisation within the Noida Authority. They have urged the Chief Minister to strengthen accountability, decentralise governance and accelerate development across the city.

Noida: Residents from several sectors of Noida have expressed dissatisfaction over what they describe as the limited involvement of local elected representatives in addressing civic and infrastructure issues. They have appealed to the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure greater accountability from public representatives while introducing administrative reforms within the Noida Authority.

According to residents, Noida remains one of Uttar Pradesh’s most important industrial and residential cities and has consistently received attention from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath due to its strategic location adjoining Delhi. They acknowledged that the Chief Minister has personally reviewed development projects in Noida, Greater Noida and the Yamuna Expressway region through multiple visits over the past few years.

However, residents alleged that local Member of Parliament Dr Mahesh Sharma and MLA Pankaj Singh have not demonstrated the level of engagement expected by citizens. They claimed that despite repeated meetings, memorandums and representations highlighting civic concerns, many issues remain unresolved.

Residents Raise Concerns Over Public Representation

Residents alleged that public representatives make only limited visits to different sectors and that complaints often remain confined to official records without resulting in meaningful action on the ground.

Many residents expressed frustration, stating that they feel disconnected from their elected representatives once elections are over. According to them, several long-pending civic issues continue to remain outside the priority agenda of local leadership.

Allegations of Administrative Centralisation

Residents also raised concerns about the functioning of the Noida Authority, alleging that decision-making powers have become highly centralised under the Chief Executive Officer.

They claimed that sector-level officers have little authority to resolve local issues independently, resulting in delays and reduced public participation. According to residents, greater decentralisation and delegation of powers would improve governance and expedite project execution.

Concerns Over Development Budget Utilisation

Residents further alleged that delays in project approvals, tendering and execution have affected the pace of development. They claimed that only around 30 percent of the development budget allocated for the 2025-26 financial year had reportedly been utilised, which they described as a matter of concern for the city’s infrastructure growth.

Demands Placed Before the Chief Minister

Residents have urged the Chief Minister to introduce a series of governance reforms, including:

Ensuring active participation of the local MP and MLA in resolving civic issues.
Restricting the CEO’s role primarily to monitoring while empowering sector-level officers with decision-making authority.
Promoting greater delegation of powers and administrative transparency within the Noida Authority.
Constituting Local Grievance Committees in every sector with participation from Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs).
Making public reporting of development budget utilisation mandatory.

Residents Call for Collaborative Governance

Residents said that the future growth of Noida depends on coordinated efforts between the state government, elected representatives, the Noida Authority and citizens. They alleged that the present combination of inactive political leadership and a highly centralised administrative structure has become a major obstacle to timely development and effective civic governance.
