Noida: Residents of Supertech Romano in Sector-118, Noida, have received major relief amid long-standing issues with electricity and maintenance charges. The Paschimanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited (PVVNL) has declared the practice of deducting maintenance charges from prepaid electricity recharge balances illegal and ordered an immediate halt to the system.

The order was issued by the Electricity Urban Distribution Division-6, Noida. The department clearly stated that no CAM or maintenance charges may be deducted from residents’ electricity recharge balances under any circumstances.

Residents raised complaints over arbitrary deductions

Residents of the society had been alleging for several months that CAM charges were being deducted through the maintenance agency and the C4T app directly from the amount recharged in prepaid electricity meters.

The deductions often caused recharge balances to get exhausted earlier than expected, resulting in sudden electricity disruptions in flats. Several families reportedly faced power cuts without prior notice, creating inconvenience in day-to-day life.

Residents

The practice was unfair as electricity recharge amounts were being used for purposes unrelated to actual power consumption.

PVVNL clarifies rules

Taking cognisance of the complaints, PVVNL issued clear instructions stating that electricity supply cannot be disconnected due to pending maintenance dues.

The department also clarified that deducting CAM charges from prepaid electricity recharge amounts is against existing electricity regulations.

PVVNL directed the society management to adopt separate channels for maintenance collection, including:

  • Online bank transfers
  • Cheque payments
  • Other independent payment systems

Electricity billing and maintenance recovery are separate matters and cannot be linked together through prepaid power recharge systems.

PVVNL further clarified that the order will remain applicable not only to the current maintenance agency but also to any agency appointed in the future for society maintenance operations.

The department warned that any violation of the order by the society management or the C4T agency could invite legal and punitive action.

Residents welcome the decision

Residents of Supertech Romano welcomed the move, calling it a major relief for families facing frequent recharge-related power disruptions.

The decision would help ensure transparency in electricity billing and prevent arbitrary deductions from prepaid balances.

Residents

The development is also being seen as an important precedent for other high-rise societies in Noida and Greater Noida, where disputes over prepaid electricity meters and maintenance charge recoveries have become increasingly common.
