Greater Noida West: The dream of metro services in Greater Noida West is still unfulfilled. Around 1 million people living here have been waiting for the metro for the past 8 years. It is worth mentioning that on Thursday, when the central government approved the extension of the metro to Boraki, the people of Greater Noida West also felt a surge of hope, but once again, they met with disappointment.
Gautam Buddha Nagar MP, Dr. Mahesh Sharma has also raised this issue in Parliament, yet the situation remains unchanged. The biggest question still remains: when will the metro run in Greater Noida West?
RRTS project has become a hurdle
The proposed metro project from Sector 51 of Noida to Knowledge Park 5 in Greater Noida West has been significantly hindered by the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS). Work on the Greater Noida West metro can only begin once the route for the proposed Namó Bharat Rail project, which runs from Ghaziabad to Jewar at the Noida International Airport, is finalized. In this situation, residents may have to wait longer for the metro.
A statue will be connected to the Rapid Metro at the roundabout. According to the plan, the Rapid Metro will connect from Ghaziabad to the roundabout near the statue in Greater Noida West. However, the situation will remain unclear until the route of Namo Bharat Rail is finalized. Due to technical reasons, it is not possible to operate both projects on a single track. Until the route is determined, the metro for Greater Noida West will remain a dream.
Residents express dissatisfaction, NEFOWA raises questions
President of the residents’ association NEFOWA, Mr Abhishek, has questioned the government. He said, “Congratulations to the government for approving the metro up to Bodaki, but what about the 10 lakh people of Greater Noida West? They are voters too. Don’t they need the metro?”
Not the airport, I need to go to the office every day. Resident Manish expressed his displeasure over the delay in the metro, saying, “If the RRTS route is not finalized, will the metro not come to Greater Noida West? The metro is getting delayed due to the airport connectivity issue. I go to the airport occasionally, but I have to go to the office every day. We have our offices in Noida, so here the need for the metro is greater.”
