Greater Noida West : A traffic management dispute has intensified around the Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir roundabout in Greater Noida West, where residents are questioning the continued use of full-day barriers by the traffic police despite traffic signals reportedly being installed months ago.
What triggered the controversy
According to residents and local representatives, DCP Traffic Abhay Kumar Mishra reportedly said that a traffic light system is being planned for the area and that barriers are necessary until then. Residents argue that this statement conflicts with the ground reality: traffic signals have already been physically installed around the roundabout and have remained non-operational for months.
“Had the site been inspected before the statement, it would have been clear that the traffic lights are already installed but not functioning,” residents said.
Residents allege barriers are causing unnecessary detours
Local residents claim that Noida Traffic Police personnel and the TSI keep barriers in place throughout the day for operational convenience rather than traffic necessity. The result, they say, is that motorists are forced to take longer routes to reach nearby destinations.
The most affected, according to residents, are vehicles coming from the Surajpur side or the Rise police outpost direction and heading toward Techzone-4, the 130-metre road, Sector-16B, or Ecotech-12. Instead of using the direct movement through the Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir roundabout, many drivers are reportedly diverted via the D-Mart/Golden Eye roundabout, increasing travel distance and time.
Key resident concerns
- Traffic lights are already installed but remain inactive.
- Full-day barrier placement is creating avoidable detours.
- Commuters heading toward Techzone-4, Sector-16B, Ecotech-12 and adjoining corridors face the greatest inconvenience.
- Longer routes increase fuel consumption and travel time.
- Residents are seeking an immediate inspection and activation of the signal system.
The fuel-use argument enters the debate
Residents have also linked the issue to fuel conservation, arguing that forcing vehicles to travel an additional distance increases diesel and petrol consumption. They say the current arrangement runs counter to broader public messaging that encourages minimisingminimisingminimizing unnecessary fuel use.
Demands placed before the authorities
Residents have urged the DCP Traffic and senior police authorities to:
- Conduct an on-site inspection of the Panchmukhi Hanuman Mandir roundabout.
- Verify the status of the already-installed traffic signal infrastructure.
- Activate the traffic lights without further delay if technically feasible.
- Review the necessity of keeping barriers deployed throughout the day.
- Issue a transparent explanation regarding the signal project’s status and operational timeline.
