Greater Noida West: A fresh civic and infrastructure concern has surfaced at Aims Green Avenue in Sector 4, where residents have alleged that dirty, stagnant water has entered lifts through the basement, raising alarm over safety and maintenance standards.
Basement turns into “Drain-Like” zone
According to residents, the basement area of Towers I and J has effectively turned into a drain, with wastewater accumulating and seeping into lift shafts. This has resulted in foul-smelling, contaminated water collecting inside lifts, disrupting daily movement and posing hygiene risks.
The situation is particularly concerning as lifts are a critical utility in high-rise buildings. With water ingress, the risk of electrical hazards and mechanical failure increases significantly, especially in a society with multiple 19-storey towers.
Residents allege poor maintenance despite charges
Residents, including Akhilesh Singh and Durgesh Shukla, claim that despite paying registry costs and regular maintenance charges, basic services remain compromised. They allege that essential upkeep, particularly in basement drainage and sewage systems, has been neglected.
The society houses approximately 150–200 families in the affected towers alone and while the infrastructure provision includes four lifts per tower, only two are reportedly functional at present. This has further intensified the inconvenience.
Recurring issues in the society
Residents earlier complained about persistent lift malfunctions and poor maintenance, with warnings of protests if not resolved
- Incidents of waterlogging and seepage have been repeatedly reported, raising concerns about structural durability.
- In another serious episode, a lift reportedly crashed from the 6th floor to the basement, injuring residents and highlighting safety lapses.
Safety risks and growing anxiety
Experts warn that water accumulation in lift shafts is a high-risk scenario. It can damage lift machinery, corrode components, and increase the risk of short circuits. In extreme cases, it can lead to lift failure or accidents.
Residents say that for the past two days, dirty water has remained stagnant in the basement and continues to enter lifts. This has led to growing anxiety, particularly among families with children and elderly members.
Demand for immediate action
Residents are now demanding urgent intervention from both the builder and the local authority. Key demands include:
- Immediate drainage and cleaning of the basement
- Inspection and repair of sewage and water pipelines
- Proper maintenance of lift systems
- Accountability from the builder for repeated lapses
With multiple complaints piling up and past incidents indicating systemic issues, residents say the matter requires urgent attention before it escalates into a major accident.
