Greater Noida: Agreement has been signed between the UP Government and Western Sydney University (WSU), Australia, under which the first campus of WSU will be set up in Greater Noida, UP in India. This MoU was signed today in Lucknow by the Chief Secretary of the State Government Manoj Kumar Singh and WSU Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Sweeney.
Agriculture Production Commissioner Monica S. Garg, Principal Secretary Higher Education MP Aggarwal, CEO of Greater Noida Authority NG Ravi Kumar and Additional Chief Executive Officer of Invest UP Prathamesh Kumar were also present at the MoU signing ceremony.
The Chief Secretary highlighted the importance of partnership
Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, while underlining the importance of this partnership, said that Western Sydney University will be the first foreign university to set up a campus in Greater Noida. The first phase of this campus will be set up in a commercial building in Greater Noida, while in the second phase, a full university campus will be developed on seven acres of land.
He also informed that Uttar Pradesh is the fastest-growing state in India, especially Western Uttar Pradesh, which contributes significantly to GDP and agricultural production. Apart from this, the Jewar Airport to be built in Greater Noida will boost exports and improve global connectivity.
Important points related to education policy
the proposed Noida Campus is in line with the objectives of Uttar Pradesh’s Higher Education Promotion Policy 2024, which aims to create a flexible and inclusive higher education system. Under this policy, financial incentives will be provided to attract domestic and international educational institutions, which will encourage the young talent of the state and promote economic development.

Western Sydney University, which is among the top 50 young universities, is renowned for its sustainability and innovation. This campus will support Uttar Pradesh’s agrotech initiatives, especially in the areas of smart agriculture, water management and climate adaptation. This initiative will make the state a leader in emerging industries.
The MoU signing ceremony was also attended by WSU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global) Dr Nicolene Murdoch, WSU Vice President of Operations and Commercial Bill Parasiris, Head of International Strategy and Partnerships (Food and Environment) at WSU’s Hawkesbury Environmental Institute Dr. Nisha Rakesh, Minister-Counsellor of the Australian High Commission Matthew Johnson and Head of Research Collaboration and Partnerships Dr. Kopal Chaubey.
