IGI airport’s roof collapsed

Six people were injured in a terrible incident at Delhi Airport on Friday morning, June 28, when a portion of the Terminal-1 roof collapsed upon cars due to heavy rainfall.

An airport spokesman stated that check-in counters were closed and departures from Terminal 1 were momentarily suspended for security reasons. Around 5:30 a.m., there was a collapse that resulted in serious damage to several cars, including taxis. In order to make sure nobody was still trapped in the wreckage, Delhi Fire Services (DFS) started a search and rescue operation.

One of the busiest airports in the world, Indira Gandhi International Airport, sustained damage to cars parked in the pick-up and drop-off area as the ceiling sheet and support beams collapsed.

“We got a report at about 5:30 in the morning about a ceiling fall at Delhi Airport’s Terminal 1. A DFS representative stated, “Three fire engines have been rushed to the scene.”

Shutdown of Terminal 1

A section of the old Departure courtyard canopy at Terminal 1 collapsed as a result of the severe rains that morning, according to an official statement from Delhi airport. The document attested to the injuries and guaranteed that emergency services were delivering the required support and medical care. The airport issued an apology for any difficulty caused and regretted the disturbance.

There have been reports of injuries, and emergency workers are attempting to offer those impacted the required support, including medical attention. Due to this event, check-in counters are closed as a safety precaution, and all departures from Terminal 1 are temporarily suspended. The minister of aviation replies

In a post on X, Minister of Civil Aviation K Rammohan Naidu said that he is directly in charge of the situation and that the injured have been taken to local hospitals. He stated that rescue efforts were still on and urged airlines to help the impacted people.

Prolonged downpours Delhi-NCR

Delhi saw intense rain for the second day in a row. Although this helped to relieve the heat, it also resulted in waterlogging in several areas of the city. The National Capital Region saw severe disruptions due to thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy rain, hitting places including Delhi, Noida, and Gurugram.

While handling the crisis and helping the locals, authorities stay on high alert. The weather service advised residents to stay inside and keep away from regions that were flooded in light of the ongoing rain.

Images from the news agency ANI were released, showing huge traffic queues and flooded roads in certain areas of Delhi. At the Minto Road bridge, one car was visible submerged.

For the next seven days, Delhi is expected to see mostly gloomy sky with variable amounts of rain and strong gusts, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). They forecasted thunderstorms, significant rain, and winds as high as 35 km/h. On June 29, mild to moderate rain or thunderstorms, 30 to 40 km/h winds, and temperatures between 28 and 36 degrees Celsius are predicted.
