Noida : Residents of Sector 51, Noida, have intensified their protest against commercial activities operating within residential premises, alleging continued inaction by the Noida Authority despite repeated complaints and official notices. Frustrated by the situation, residents have now begun sending legal notices through advocates and are preparing to approach the court for relief.

Illegal commercial activities in a residential area

According to residents, multiple plots allotted strictly for residential use have been converted into commercial establishments. These include banquet halls, paying guest accommodations, OYO rooms, guest houses, offices, study centres, libraries, dance academies, clinics and even companies supplying domestic staff such as maids and drivers. Particularly concerning for residents is the construction and operation of banquet halls on residential plots. Two such banquet halls have reportedly been developed despite prior complaints to the authority.

Notices ignored, Activities continue

Residents claim that complaints regarding these violations were first formally submitted on February 9, 2026. While the Noida Authority issued notices to violators, the construction and operation of commercial establishments continued unabated. In some cases, property owners have reportedly received three to four notices, yet no effective enforcement action has followed. This has raised serious concerns among residents about regulatory lapses and alleged collusion within the system.

Specific violations highlighted

Residents have pointed out several specific cases:

  • A banquet hall operating under the name “ALOHA” at H-37 on a residential plot.
  • Another banquet hall is nearing completion at H-41.
  • A guest house operating at D-141, with a library and study centre in the basement.
  • Commercial activities and a telecom tower at E-83, despite complaints.

Residents allege that these activities are severely affecting their quality of life, causing noise, traffic congestion, safety risks, and disturbance in the neighborhood.

Fire incident raises safety concerns

A recent fire incident on March 12, 2026, at a girls’ guest house in D-180 further escalated concerns. Residents stated that timely intervention by the RWA, along with police and fire services, prevented a major disaster. However, they argue that such risks are increasing due to unauthorised commercial usage of residential buildings.

Legal notices issued, Copies sent to Authorities

Residents have now begun issuing legal notices to property owners involved in such activities. Copies of these notices have also been sent to the Noida Authority, the District Magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar, and the Sector 51 RWA. They claim that repeated representations through letters, WhatsApp complaints, Twitter posts, and meetings with senior officials—including the CEO, ACEO, and other departments—have failed to yield concrete results.

Residents demand immediate action

In their appeal, residents have urged the Noida Authority to strictly enforce zoning regulations and immediately shut down all unauthorized commercial operations in residential areas. They emphasised that Noida is a planned city, and such violations not only disrupt civic order but also compromise safety and urban planning standards. With tensions escalating and legal action underway, the issue is likely to see further developments in the coming days.
