August saw a 2% year-over-year reduction in domestic passenger vehicle wholesales as businesses reduced deliveries to lower inventories at dealers in response to a decline in demand.

Data released by the industry association Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) shows that the total number of passenger car dispatches in the domestic market decreased by 1.8% to 3,52,921 units last month from 3,59,228 vehicles in August 2023.

It also stated that two-wheeler wholesale sales increased by 9% to 17,11,662 units last month from 15,66,594 units in the same period last year.

Scooter dispatches increased by 10% last month to 6,06,250 units from 5,49,290 units in August 2023.

Similar to this, the number of motorcycles dispatched by enterprises to dealers rose by 8% last month, from 9,80,809 units in August 2023 to 10,60,866 units.

Compared to 64,944 units a year earlier, the total sales of three-wheelers increased by 8% to 69,962 units last month.

Looking ahead, as the country enters the festive season, demand for vehicles is expected to grow, which will also be duly augmented by the recent announcements of PM E-DRIVE and PM-eBus Sewa Schemes of Government of India,” Rajesh Menon, SIAM Director General, said.
