Ranveer Allahbadia, a YouTuber, faces criticism following accusations of inappropriate remarks during his guest appearance on the YouTube program ‘India’s Got Latent.’ This controversy has led to a legal investigation by the Mumbai police, while the Assam police have already complained about Section 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (BNS), against both Allahbadia and the show’s host, comedian Samay Raina, for purported “obscene acts.” While no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed in Mumbai yet, this event raises significant questions regarding the definition of obscenity according to Indian law, especially about online content.
In India, obscenity laws are mainly regulated by Section 294 of the BNS, which penalizes those who sell, import, export, promote, or benefit from obscene materials, such as books, artwork, and electronic content. The law characterizes obscene material as that which is “lascivious or appeals to the prurient interest” or that which “tends to deprave and corrupt persons likely to read, see, or hear it.” First-time offenders may face a maximum of two years in prison and a fine that can reach up to Rs. 5,000.
Moreover, the Information Technology Act of 2000, specifically under Section 67, deals with the online publishing or transmission of obscene material. This law reflects the definition outlined in Section 294 of the BNS but enforces harsher penalties, including up to three years of imprisonment and a fine of up to Rs. 5 lakh for first-time offenders.
Ranveer Allahbadia loses 8000 followers after his comment on ‘India’s Got Latent ‘ Ranveer Allahbadia is facing a lot of backlash at the moment for his question to a contestant on Samay Raina‘s show, ‘India’s Got Latent’. The Youtuber asked a contestant, “Would you watch your parents have sex every day for the rest of your life or join once to stop it forever?” He also asked this contestant an indecent question involving body parts and proposed an act in exchange for Rs 2 crore. After this controversy, the Ranveer has lost around 8000 followers.
Seeing all this, our heads were blasting. This generated the idea of knowing what our fellow residents of Noida are feeling. So Apartment Times reached them, and here is the outcome.
‘He is a curse and disgrace for this generation’
For me Ranveer is a curse and disgrace for the current generation, he crossed all limits. His action is kind of acrimonious for all parents so shameful. Even I hate to spend my word over him. He is a threat to the next generation what will our children learn from them? What message going to the international community from India?? He should give an exemplary punishment so that further no one should dare to cross the limit.

‘Samay should be also punished’ I strongly condemn these type of Comedians and Motivators who all performs on stages in Colleges to motivate youngsters, in the name of Youtubers to gain fame and to increase fan following. Nowadays this has become a trend to speak against Sanatan, and to abuse Hindus and their beliefs. It’s not comedy it’s vulgarity. Good, it Bursted. Comedians are crossing all Limits of Democracy. Do not laugh at disgusting content. RanveerAllahabadia should be Boycotted on all channels and all channels should be also banned. Samay should be also punished. This is not his first act, last time also he favoured beef. All who shared the stage with him also should be notice.

‘Cheap talks and crude behaviour must stop’
I am honestly more sad and disappointed with or for Ranveer Allahabadia than angry. And my reasons are more internal than external. I am sad that in a few moments, he brought all his years and years of grilling constructive efforts of building himself up, not just to zero but negative. He enjoys an enviable reputation and following over the internet. His podcasts are popular due to his coherent expression of his thoughts and his asking very apt and intelligent questions to the guests. And I am disappointed that beneath such coherent thinking, he somewhere deep down fosters a very shocking line of pondering. Or it could be a figment of several such thoughts some of which happened to surface on that show. Thinking is not bad and it should be done without bounds. It’s the ‘execution’ of those thoughts that gives them grace or shame. Because the execution shows how you have processed it. How deep & stable you are as a person. And here it was pure disgrace. I am disappointed also at his sense of inadequacy despite all the success and how he ‘looked up’ to ‘this’ panel! So much so that he desperately tries to “measure up” or low” with them. That shows a weakness of character and a lack of self-confidence. Or is it a case of plain hooligan rebellion getting fertile ground? This emphasises the importance of instilling a value system in a child. A person is known by the company he/she keeps. Because an individual mirrors the company! That company can do the trick in moments too. Like it happened here. So far his guests were esteemed people, he shone. He chooses ‘this’ panel and it has a crumbling effect. Either he cowered too low & cheap, or he was just being him. Whatever the case, the mind is most important because we are what we think. And here, I don’t like the thinking. Having said that, Ranveer is NOT the sole offender in this episode. And such stages have not disparaged our culture for the first time. It’s now a long-standing pattern. This almost entire band of so-called standup comedians, exclaiming out the lowest degree of talks and cheapest slang, now creating a whole show out of it, are celebrated! No one has ANY issue with the host and the panel who were as sick in their “quips!” Why? People even pay to hear this cheapness from these freely abusing comedians. Why? Just like parents here, they casually hurl abuses about sisters and mothers! How is that different? How really? But since most people abuse similarly, that somehow becomes acceptable and does not cause outrage. So, technically we “choose” the evil to bash? There is no logic and morals and no fairness to the outrage, that means? This episode should leave “us” thinking hard. About “our” double standards with fun & outrage, about our conduct, about our company, and most surely about our thoughts. Cheap talks and crude behaviour must stop. On shows, stage, home, street, city, state, nation. Everywhere. Uniformly. Because abusing & disparaging anyone by Ranveer, the comedians, you or me, is NOT funny.

‘Ranveer Allahbadia’s Remarks Cross the Line – Freedom of Speech is Not a License for Vulgarity’
Our Constitution grants freedom of speech, but it also upholds decency and morality. What Ranveer Allahbadia said in that so-called “show” is not just inappropriate—it is outright unacceptable. Content creation is a powerful tool, but it must come with responsibility and reasonable restrictions. The real issue here is the lack of checks and balances on such YouTubers and their scripted, sensationalized content. This was not an offhand remark. it was a paid show, a well-planned script designed to gain cheap publicity and public attention. His so-called apology means nothing when the intent was deliberate. Is this what we call creativity? Is this the kind of content we want to promote in the name of entertainment? This is not our Indian culture, and the public must reject such disgraceful narratives. We must demand accountability from digital influencers who misuse their reach for controversy rather than constructive discussions.

‘With success comes the responsibility to be mindful of what they say’ I haven’t seen the full clip, but the outrage over Ranbir’s comment highlights two key issues. First, celebrities carry immense influence, and their words are always under scrutiny. With success comes the responsibility to be mindful of what they say. Second, comedy often pushes boundaries, but relying on crass language or lowbrow humour is a lazy approach. True comedy should entertain and provoke thought without resorting to content that normalizes insensitivity or cheap laughs.

‘I am angry and shocked too’ In the country where we worship parents as God and we do believe our parents our god this statement is not at all acceptable. This is not humour one can create humour without any vulgarity. I am angry and shocked too because Ranveer is a big influencer on social media more often he talks about Indian culture and sentiments. He got a national award too. Not at all acceptable. Time to rethink what social media is showing to us.
