Noida : The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has successfully launched the Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system at Manoharpura Toll Plaza on the busy Delhi-Jaipur section of National Highway-48 (NH-48) in Rajasthan. The move marks another major step towards modernising India’s electronic toll collection system and creating a faster, technology-driven highway network.

The launch follows the successful implementation of Rajasthan’s first MLFF tolling system at Daulatpura Toll Plaza on June 19, 2026. NHAI has also announced plans to transition the Shahjahanpur Toll Plaza to the MLFF system, making the entire Delhi-Jaipur corridor increasingly seamless and congestion-free.

What is Multi-Lane Free Flow Tolling?

The Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) system allows vehicles to pass through toll locations without stopping, eliminating long queues and reducing delays. Unlike conventional toll plazas with physical barriers, the new system enables uninterrupted traffic movement through automated toll collection.

MLFF combines Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology with FASTag-based Electronic Toll Collection, enabling digital toll collection with minimal human intervention. The system aims to improve operational efficiency while offering commuters a smoother travel experience.

Benefits for Highway Users

The introduction of MLFF is expected to provide several advantages, including:

  • Zero waiting time at toll locations
  • Faster and uninterrupted traffic flow
  • Reduced fuel consumption
  • Lower vehicle emissions
  • Improved travel time on one of India’s busiest highway corridors

The initiative is part of the Government of India’s broader vision to enhance digital infrastructure and deliver citizen-centric services that improve both Ease of Living and Ease of Doing Business.

FASTag Balance is Mandatory

NHAI has advised highway users to ensure that their FASTag accounts always maintain sufficient balance to avoid penalties.

If a vehicle passes through the MLFF tolling system with:

  • Insufficient FASTag balance
  • Invalid FASTag
  • Non-functional FASTag

an Electronic Notice (E-Notice) will be issued for non-payment of the user fee.

Motorists must pay the applicable toll within 72 hours of receiving the notice. Failure to do so will result in the toll being charged at double the normal user fee for the respective vehicle category.

E-Notices can be viewed and paid through the National Highways Fee Notice Portal and the Rajmarg Yatra mobile application.

Towards a Smarter Tolling Ecosystem

According to NHAI, the implementation of MLFF is expected to strengthen India’s tolling ecosystem by improving transparency, reducing the operational costs associated with physical toll plazas and enhancing the overall efficiency of toll operations nationwide.

With the rollout at Manoharpura and the planned expansion to Shahjahanpur, commuters travelling on the Delhi-Jaipur stretch of NH-48 can expect a faster, safer and more convenient highway experience.
