Noida : An LPG supply crunch in parts of Noida and Ghaziabad is forcing domestic workers and daily wage earners to return to wood-fired chulhas and rely on costly small cylinders or informal supply chains,.
In Chaprauli, domestic worker Nisha Devi now starts her day before dawn, cooking on a chulha after failing to get a refill. The shortage has increased her workload and expenses, with a 5-kg cylinder costing around ₹1,500 and lasting barely a week.
Workers across Gejha and Harola report delays in getting cylinders, forcing them to depend on employer-provided food or basic staples.
Cooking on firewood adds to physical exhaustion even before work begins.

In Ghaziabad, rising prices and disruptions in informal LPG supply have worsened the crisis. Some families are turning to rural connections, while others face repeated failed visits to gas agencies, losing daily wages in the process.
With fuel costs rising, even alternatives like cow dung cakes are becoming increasingly expensive, prompting some families to temporarily return to their hometowns, while others continue to struggle without sufficient savings.
