Greater Noida: The growing number of paying guest (PG) accommodations in Alpha-1 has become a concern for some residents, who have raised questions about alleged rule violations, cleanliness and disturbances caused by certain occupants. Manish Dawar, a resident and social worker from Alpha-1, has urged the Greater Noida Authority, police administration and RWA to take action against PGs allegedly operating without adhering to prescribed norms. He claims that more than 80 houses in the sector are currently being used as PG accommodations. Raising questions about commercial activities in residential plots, Dawar has asked whether the Greater Noida Authority permits large-scale PG operations in residential properties. He cited an example of a 200-square-metre house allegedly converted into a PG with multiple rooms across different floors and demanded clarity on the permissions and regulations governing such establishments.
Residents raise concerns over late-night disturbances
Dawar alleged that some students staying in PG accommodations create disturbances in the neighbourhood, particularly during late-night hours. He cited complaints of loud music, smoking, alcohol consumption in public spaces, littering and inappropriate behaviour in parks and other common areas. He also expressed concern over vehicles being driven at high speeds and loud music being played late at night. According to Dawar, he has repeatedly requested PG operators to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness and establishing clear rules for their occupants, including restrictions on late-night disturbances and responsible behaviour in public spaces. However, he claimed that these requests have not led to any significant improvement.
Manish Dawar seeks accountability from PG operators and authorities
If the authorities are unable to address the problems associated with PG accommodations, the sector’s identity as a residential neighbourhood could be affected. There should be a uniform set of rules for all PG operators, covering cleanliness, tenant verification, security, parking and the conduct of occupants. The complaints containing addresses and photographs of PG accommodations operating in Alpha-1 would soon be submitted to the concerned authorities for inspection and necessary action.

Civic infrastructure problems add to residents’ concerns
Apart from the PG-related complaints, Dawar also highlighted several civic issues in Alpha-1. He alleged that drains in the sector are damaged or clogged, parks are poorly maintained, gates are broken and roads have developed potholes. He also claimed that the community barat ghar has turned into a garbage dumping spot. Calling for attention to both residential and civic concerns, he urged the Greater Noida Authority and RWA to take coordinated steps to improve cleanliness, infrastructure and the overall living environment in the sector.
