Fire Service Day: Police Commissionerate Gautam Buddha Nagar pays homage to the martyrs

On April 14, 1944, a massive fire broke out with a terrible explosion in a cargo ship named Fortstriken in Mumbai port, which shook the entire port. 144 people died in that fire, out of which 66 officers and employees of the fire service were martyred while performing their duty.

Noida: In Commissionerate Gautam Buddha Nagar, Additional Commissioner of Police Law/Order Shiv Hari Meena, along with fire officers/employees, observed silence in the fire station while paying homage to the martyrs and took out a foot march with the aim of making the general public aware about fire accidents.

April 14 is known as Fire Service Day

On April 14, 1944, a massive fire broke out with a terrible explosion in a cargo ship named Fortstriken in Mumbai port, which shook the entire port. 144 people died in that fire, out of which 66 officers and employees of the fire service were martyred while performing their duty. April 14 is celebrated as Fire Service Day to pay tribute to these martyrs and to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. The objective of this event is to make the general public aware of the measures to reduce the loss of property and life in fire incidents.

Fire stations paid homage to the martyrs

On this occasion, on April 14, 2025, at Fire Station Phase-I Noida, Gautam Budh Nagar, Shivhari Meena, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law/Order) Gautam Budh Nagar, DCP Noida, Chief Fire Officer Pradeep Kumar, District Fire Officers, Fire Officer II and employees from Fire Station Phase-I as well as other fire stations of the district paid homage to the martyrs and observed 02 minutes of silence in their memory. Tributes were paid to the martyrs by offering wreaths/flower wreaths. Pin flags were also put on all officers/employees and dignitaries.

“Unite to Ignite a Fire Safe India”

The Additional Commissioner of Police highlighted the theme of fire safety – “Unite to Ignite a Fire Safe India”. After this, the rally of the vehicles of the district was flagged off by Additional Commissioner of Police Law/Order, Gautam Buddh Nagar to make the general public aware of fire safety and distribute pamphlets related to it. Along with firefighters and officers from various fire stations, the rally was held from Fire Station Phase I to Sandeep Paper Mill Square and various blocks of Sector 2 and then marched on foot to the fire station. The vehicles went from Fire Station Phase I Noida to Sandeep Paper Mill Square, Indian Oil Square, Sector 16, Atta, Sector 18 Metro Station, Sector-27, District Hospital, Modi Mall, Noida Stadium, Sector-12/22, Sector-58, Shopprix Mall, Sector-61, Uflex, Kailash Hospital Sector-71, etc. and distributed pamphlets while spreading awareness about fire safety.
