Noida: Following widespread waterlogging after the first spell of monsoon rains, the Confederation of NCR Resident Welfare Associations (CONRWA) Noida Chapter has once again questioned the preparedness of the Noida Authority. The residents’ body has alleged that despite repeated warnings and written representations before the onset of the monsoon, adequate preventive measures were not taken, resulting in flooding across several parts of the city.

In a letter addressed to the Noida Authority, CONRWA stated that it had written to the authority on June 1, 2026, urging officials to complete the cleaning of drains, sewer lines and stormwater channels before the monsoon. The organisation said similar concerns have been raised repeatedly over the past several years through meetings and official communications, but the issue persists.

According to the residents’ body, the first major rainfall of the season exposed serious shortcomings in the city’s drainage infrastructure. Waterlogging was reported in several residential sectors, on major roads, and underpasses, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to commuters and residents.

CONRWA stated that the recurring problem highlights the gap between official claims and the actual condition of drainage systems on the ground. The organisation alleged that drains and sewer networks are not cleaned in a timely manner, allowing silt and garbage to accumulate, which obstructs the free flow of rainwater during heavy showers.

The letter also questioned the effectiveness of the expenditure incurred on annual desilting and maintenance works. It said that while substantial funds are reportedly spent on cleaning operations every year, the recurrence of severe waterlogging after the very first rainfall raises concerns about the quality and execution of these works.

Seeking a long-term solution, CONRWA has urged the Noida Authority to comprehensively review its existing maintenance mechanism and adopt a scientific, time-bound and result-oriented system for the upkeep of drains, sewer lines and stormwater infrastructure. The organisation emphasised that merely completing paperwork would not address the issue and that visible improvements on the ground are essential.

CONRWA has requested the authority to treat the matter as one of public interest and take effective corrective measures to prevent similar situations in the future. It has also sought a detailed report on the action taken in response to its representation.

The representation has been signed by Dr P. S. Jain, President, and Rajeev Garg, General Secretary, CONRWA Noida Chapter.
