Noida: The Confederation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (CONRWA) has written to the Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority, raising serious concerns over recurring fires in horticulture waste across the city and the resulting pollution and health hazards faced by residents.

In a letter dated May 6, 2026, CONRWA president Dr. P.S. Jain highlighted that after tree pruning and cutting activities carried out by the horticulture department in different sectors, large quantities of waste such as branches, leaves and dry vegetation are often dumped at various locations across Noida.

According to the association, these waste piles have repeatedly caught fire over the last three years, leading to severe air pollution in the city. The smoke generated from such incidents has been causing respiratory problems, allergies, eye irritation and other health complications among residents.

The letter stated that children, senior citizens and people already suffering from illnesses are particularly vulnerable to the harmful effects of the smoke and deteriorating air quality.

CONRWA also expressed concern that despite repeated incidents over the past several years, accountability has not been fixed on any official or department responsible for the improper handling of horticulture waste. The association said the absence of responsibility and monitoring has allowed the problem to continue without any permanent solution.

The residents’ body has demanded immediate intervention from the Noida Authority and urged officials to ensure scientific and safe disposal of horticulture waste. It also requested that such waste should only be stored at designated safe locations instead of being left in open public spaces.

Among the key demands made in the letter are:

  • Proper and scientific disposal of horticulture waste
  • Safe storage of waste at designated locations
  • Investigation into fire incidents and fixing accountability of responsible officials
  • Strong preventive measures to stop the recurrence of such fires in future

Copies of the letter have also been sent to the Police Commissioner and Chief Fire Officer of Gautam Budh Nagar.

Residents expect swift action from the authorities to protect citizens from rising pollution and associated health risks caused by recurring horticulture waste fires in Noida.

Dr PS Jain
