Gautam Buddh Nagar: Dinesh Mishra, booth president and primary member of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Bisrakh Mandal, has resigned from his party positions in protest against recent policies implemented by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

In his statement, Mishra said that the policies being enforced through the UGC are against the principles of equality and equal opportunity enshrined in Articles 14 and 16 of the Indian Constitution. He alleged that these measures are having an adverse impact on general category students, meritorious students from the upper castes and the overall balance of the country’s education system.
Mishra further stated that due to political interests, the party appears to be deviating from its core principles of equality, merit and justice. He said this shift was not in line with his self-respect and ideological commitment.
He added that it was because of these reasons that he chose to resign from the primary membership of the BJP as well as the post of booth president. The decision was taken on the occasion of Republic Day.
Nikhil Singhal, President of the Noida Highrise Federation, welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to stay the UGC’s 2026 caste-based anti-discrimination regulations.
The move has come as a relief for many and will help reduce unnecessary tension among citizens. The court has directed that the 2012 UGC regulations will continue to remain in force until further orders, observing that the new rules could divide society and exclude general category students from grievance redressal mechanisms in universities.
