The Samajwadi Party will not join Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Uttar Pradesh unless seat-sharing between the SP and Congress is finalised, party chief Akhilesh Yadav said on Monday.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function, he said, “Right now talks are going on, lists have come from them, we have also given them the list. The moment, seat distribution is done, Samajwadi Party will join their Nyaya Yatra.”

Replying to a question on Swami Prasad Maurya’s tirade against the party, Akhilesh said, “People come for benefits and then go away. How does one know what is going on in their minds?”

The Gandhi-led yatra will pass through Amethi on Monday. It will then enter Raebareli, where the Samajwadi Party chief had earlier said he would join.

The Samajwadi Party has offered 11 seats to the grand old party while the Congress’ state unit has demanded a higher allocation.

Ajay Rai, the Congress’ Uttar Pradesh unit chief, had earlier said the party should get around two dozen seats it had won in the 2009 general elections. The Samajwadi Party and the Congress are partners in the opposition INDIA bloc.
