Noida: In a landmark initiative aimed at safeguarding some of society’s most vulnerable children, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate has launched ‘Operation Aprajeya’, a dedicated campaign focused on the protection, welfare, and empowerment of children with special needs.

Launched under the guidance of Police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh and the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Dr. Rajeev Narayan Mishra, the initiative seeks to create a comprehensive support system that extends beyond traditional policing and places the well-being of special needs children at its core.

1,645 children identified in the first phase

As part of the campaign, the police have identified 1,645 special needs children across Gautam Buddh Nagar. The initiative aims to ensure their safety, health and overall development through continuous monitoring and coordinated support.

A confidential database containing details of these children and their guardians will be maintained at Mission Shakti Centres in every police station area. This will enable authorities to provide immediate assistance whenever required while maintaining the privacy of families.

Women beat officers to stay connected with families

Under the operational framework of Operation Aprajeya, women beat officers will establish regular contact with special needs children, their parents and caregivers. Every 15 days, officers will visit or communicate with families to assess the child’s well-being and identify any concerns related to safety, health or care.

In cases where medical assistance is required, police personnel will facilitate access to nearby health centres or specialist hospitals, ensuring that children receive timely treatment and support.

The department will also educate families about emergency response services, including Dial 112 and Child Helpline 1098, so that assistance can be sought without delay during emergencies.

Caregiver verification to strengthen child safety

Recognising that safety begins at home and within caregiving environments, the campaign includes regular character verification of caregivers responsible for looking after special needs children. Verification will be conducted every 15 days to help prevent potential risks and ensure a secure environment for children.

Officials believe this proactive approach will help identify concerns at an early stage and further strengthen protective measures for vulnerable children.

Experts to train police personnel

To make the initiative more effective and sensitive, experts from Max Hospital Noida and Amity University will provide practical and soft skills training to police personnel.

The training will focus on helping officers understand the behavioural patterns, communication challenges and emotional needs of children with disabilities. By equipping police personnel with specialised knowledge, authorities aim to ensure that interactions with children and their families are empathetic, informed and supportive.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women Safety) has been appointed as the nodal officer for the implementation and monitoring of the campaign.

Dedicated helpline launched for support and counselling

To ensure round-the-clock assistance, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate has launched a dedicated helpline number — 8595902539.

The helpline will serve as a direct channel for complaints, assistance requests, counselling support and information related to the welfare of special needs children. Police officials have assured that all information received through the helpline will be acted upon promptly.

Building a neighbourhood safety network

The initiative also envisions the creation of a Neighbourhood Security Plan through collaboration with various government departments, healthcare institutions, educational organisations and community stakeholders.

This community-based approach aims to strengthen local support systems and ensure that special needs children receive care, protection and assistance not only from law enforcement agencies but also from society at large.

More than a campaign, a commitment

According to the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Commissionerate, Operation Aprajeya is not merely a policing initiative. It is a humanitarian effort designed to ensure that children with special needs can live with dignity, security and equal opportunities.

Through regular monitoring, healthcare support, caregiver verification, professional training, emergency assistance and inter-departmental coordination, the campaign seeks to create a safer and more inclusive environment for hundreds of families across the district.
