Noida: The new policies introduced by the Uttar Pradesh Power Department are facing growing criticism from residents and consumer groups, who claim that the latest regulations have increased the financial burden on households and businesses instead of providing relief.

Raising concerns over the recent changes, Divya Krishnatreya (Deepak Sharma), President of the RWA, Sector 105, Noida, highlighted two major issues that are causing hardship for electricity consumers across the state.

Heavy Charges Imposed in the Name of ‘Affordable Charge’

According to Sharma, consumers seeking new electricity connections are being required to pay substantial fees under the category of “Affordable Charge.”

Despite its consumer-friendly name, the charge has become an additional financial burden on residents and is being widely perceived as unfair. The term suggests affordability, but in reality, it is putting extra pressure on consumers who are already dealing with rising living costs.

10% Increase in Electricity Rates Adds to Inflation Burden

The RWA President also criticized the reported 10 percent increase in electricity tariffs, stating that the hike has significantly impacted both residential consumers and commercial establishments.

With inflation already affecting household budgets, the increased power tariffs are expected to raise monthly expenses for families as well as operating costs for businesses.

Demand for Immediate Relief

Expressing concern over the impact of the new policies, Sharma urged the state government and the electricity department to review the decisions and provide relief to consumers.

Even for a basic necessity like electricity, citizens today feel burdened and ignored. The government and the department should immediately reconsider these consumer-unfriendly decisions and withdraw them in the interest of the public.

The issue is expected to generate wider debate among resident welfare associations and consumer groups, many of whom have been raising concerns about rising utility costs and additional charges imposed on consumers.
