New Delhi: During Diwali, incidents like fire, plaster falling, and residents getting stuck in lifts in many group housing societies have raised serious concerns about their safety. These incidents have raised questions about the lack of safety standards and weak structures, which is an extremely worrying situation. In this episode, another big news story came out from Delhi, which all the residents must be aware of.
Serious questions have been raised about the structural stability of flats built on 99-year lease in Gautam Buddha Nagar. The 10 to 15-year delay in the handover of flats to the Owners Association (AOA) by the builders is also adding to this problem.
In this context, Signature View Apartments built by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is a prime example. Built only 13 years ago, this project consists of 12 towers with 336 flats, which are now facing serious structural problems. Problems like deep cracks in the walls and falling roofs have now become common, posing a threat to the safety of the residents.
Inspection by IIT Delhi and reconstruction plan by DDA
In the inspection done by the experts of IIT Delhi in November 2022, it was clearly stated that the Signature View Apartments are no longer habitable. After this, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) started the process of reconstruction of this project. In this situation, the biggest question arises if an accident happens in such a situation and there is any loss of life, then who will take responsibility for it?
Need for legal and contractual responsibility
In this serious situation, it has become extremely important to determine the legal and contractual responsibility of the builder, authority and other concerned parties. The responsibility of these parties should be fixed regarding the safety of the residents so that any such accident can be avoided in future. It is important that the fundamental rights of the residents and their safety are given top priority and that a fair solution to this issue is ensured.
