Noida: A growing mosquito menace in Sector 74 has forced residents to abandon public spaces, with parks and open gyms near Cape Town Society lying deserted amid rising dengue fears. Built for recreation and public health, these facilities are now turning into high-risk zones. Residents say the situation has worsened over the past few weeks, with mosquito infestation reaching alarming levels.

Morning walkers, children and fitness enthusiasts who once frequented these spaces are now staying indoors to avoid exposure.

Departments pass responsibility, Residents suffer

The core issue, residents claim, is administrative confusion. While the horticulture department is responsible for park maintenance, the health department has refused to conduct fogging, citing jurisdictional limitations.

This lack of coordination has left residents caught in the middle, with no effective mosquito control measures in place.

Complaints ignored despite repeated appeals

Residents allege that multiple complaints have been filed with authorities, but no concrete action has followed. One resident said authorities have been informed repeatedly, yet no meaningful intervention has taken place. Another pointed out that departments are shifting blame instead of addressing the crisis.

Fogging plan exists, Implementation missing

Although a spraying roster was reportedly issued from April 1, residents claim that ground-level execution is missing. The contractor responsible for spraying has not been carrying out regular operations.

Officials have stated that action will be taken after inspection, but residents remain sceptical as the problem persists.

Public health risk escalates

With dengue fears looming large, the absence of timely intervention is raising serious public health concerns. Residents are now demanding immediate coordination between departments and strict accountability.

Until then, what were once vibrant community spaces remain eerily empty, overtaken by neglect and administrative apathy.
