South Asian Junior Athletics Championship: India Add Nine Gold on Day 2 to Extend Tally to 19 Medals

India won three gold medals on the first day of the championship; on the second day of the competition, the country grabbed nine yellow metals, increasing its total gold medal count to twelve.

On second day of the South Asian Junior Athletics Championship, the Indian team had a medal frenzy, winning an astounding 19 medals on Thursday, nine of which were gold.

With this haul, India’s total gold medal count increased to 12 after the country won three gold on the first day of competition.
Anisha, representing the Indians, won the first gold medal of the day in the women’s discus throw event. She threw the discus 49.91 meters, surpassing the previous meet record of 48.60 meters established by A Bajwa in 2018.

Amanat Kamboj took home the silver with a throw of 48.38 meters, while JH Gauranganie of Sri Lanka had to settle for bronze with a throw of 37.95 meters.
With a time of 54.50 seconds, Neeru Pahtak won the eighth gold medal for India in the women’s 400-meter event.
Sandra Mol Sabu, a fellow countrywoman, won the silver medal in 54.82 seconds, and K Takshima Nuhansa of Sri Lanka won the bronze in 55.27 seconds.

Additional gold medal winners for India are Jay Kumar (men’s 400m), Sharuk Khan (men’s 3,000m), RC Jithin Arjunan (men’s long jump), Ritik (men’s discus throw), Prachi Ankush (women’s 3,000m), Unnathi Aiyappa (women’s 100m hurdles), and Prathiksha Yamuna (women’s long jump).

But in the men’s 110-meter hurdles, WP Sandun Koshala of Sri Lanka overtook Nayan Pradip Sarde of India to win the gold in 14.06 seconds.

Sarde finished in second place with a timing of 14.14 seconds, while Lanka’s E Vishwa Tharuka took first place with a record of 14.27 seconds.
