Inter-School Hockey tournament opens at Aster Public School Greater Noida

Greater Noida: An inter-school hockey tournament was inaugurated with great enthusiasm at Aster Public School, Greater Noida, on August 27, 2026. The tournament is being organised as part of the school’s ongoing efforts to promote sports and nurture young hockey talent at the school level.

Aster Public School has been organising the tournament regularly for several years with the aim of providing young players with a platform to showcase their skills and gain competitive experience.

Dignitaries attend opening ceremony

The tournament was inaugurated in the presence of prominent personalities from the fields of sports, education and social service.

The dignitaries present at the opening ceremony included Preeti Sharma, Principal, Aster Public School; Romeo James, former Olympian hockey player; Manjeet Singh, President, Gautam Buddh Nagar Hockey Association; Harinder Bhati, noted social worker; Bijender Singh Arya, Founder, Arya Deep Public School; Jaiveer Singh Dagar, Vice-Principal, Aster Public School; and Dhananjay Singh, national-level hockey player.

Their presence encouraged the participating players and highlighted the importance of promoting hockey and other sports among schoolchildren.

10 teams compete for the trophy

A total of 10 school-level teams are participating in the tournament. The competition includes six boys’ teams and four girls’ teams, who will compete for the championship trophy.

The tournament aims to provide young players with valuable exposure to competitive hockey while encouraging teamwork, discipline and sporting spirit.

SS Mota Singh School wins opening match

The opening match of the tournament was played between SS Mota Singh School, Delhi, and HL International School.

In a closely contested encounter, SS Mota Singh School secured a 1-0 victory over HL International School to make a winning start to the tournament.

The remaining matches will continue in the coming days, with teams competing for a place in the finals.

Finals and Medal ceremony on National Sports Day

The upcoming matches will be played from 9:30 am onwards on Friday, while the finals in both the boys’ and girls’ categories will be held on August 29, 2026.

The medal distribution ceremony will also take place on the same day.

August 29 is celebrated across India as National Sports Day to mark the birth anniversary of legendary Indian hockey player Major Dhyan Chand. This year marks his 121st birth anniversary.

The tournament will conclude with the finals and medal ceremony, celebrating young sporting talent and reinforcing the importance of sports in school education.
