Sabarmati Express derailed due to object placed on track, says Vaishnaw | India News

The engine of the Sabarmati Express train struck a “object placed on the track” and derailed close to Kanpur around 2.35 in the morning on Saturday, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

Rail officials said that twenty carriages of the Sabarmati Express passenger train derailed close to Kanpur’s Govindpuri station. There have been no reports of fatalities or injuries from the collision.

At 02:35 am today, the Sabarmati Express engine (Varanasi to Amdavad) derailed close to Kanpur after colliding with an object left on the track, he stated on X.

“Sharp hit marks are observed,” he continued. Proof is shielded. Police from UP and IB are also focussing on it. Neither employees nor passengers were hurt. Train reserved for travellers continuing to Amdavad.”

According to officials, rescue and relief efforts are in progress at the location.

The role of miscreants or antisocial elements is being investigated, according to Railway Board officials, as it initially seems that the engine struck an object that was placed on track.

“We discovered a foreign object close to the train’s sixteenth coach. According to the size of the engine’s broken cow guard, it appears that the engine struck a foreign object and derailed, an official stated.

“The loco pilot said that some boulder hit the cattle guard (front portion) of the engine which got badly damaged and bent,” a different officer stated.

A Patna-Indore train passed through unhindered on the same track around 1:20 am, according to Railway Board authorities.

“Buses have been arranged for the passengers along with alternative arrangements for transportation and all passengers have been evacuated from the spot,” stated Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar.

The derailment resulted in the cancellation of seven trains and the diversion of three, according to the Railways.
