The Indian, who won the world championship in Kobe this year, had a difficult existence due to her father’s long illness and final death. She was born prematurely with vision impairment.
Her will to overcome challenges and her fighting spirit were ingrained in her during those trying times.
Athletes with vision impairments compete in the Paralympics under classification T12.
After Simran’s early birth, she was placed in an incubator for ten weeks, during which time her visual impairment was identified.
She competed in the 2019 World Para Athletics Championship despite being afraid of losing her father, and that was when she made her breakthrough.
Even though her father passed away soon after she returned from the event, she used her sorrow as inspiration to strive for success in order to honor his memory.
