Noida: Cyber offenders conned an elderly woman of Rs 84 lakh by digitally arresting her for three days. The accused told the woman that there were drugs in her parcel. The fraudsters committed the crime by posing as CBI and Mumbai Police officers.
The caller introduced himself as an employee of FedEx Courier Company
Vivek Ranjan Rai, Assistant Commissioner of Police Cyber Crime says,” A woman living in a society in Sector 45 of Noida has lodged a report in the police station that on June 23, she received a call on her mobile phone. The caller introduced himself as an employee of FedEx Courier Company. He said that a parcel is being sent abroad using your Aadhaar card. He said that the parcel contained foreign currency and drugs along with other objectionable items.
The accused threatened the woman that a case was being registered against them. He allegedly got her in touch with an officer of the Mumbai Cyber Crime Branch, he said that during the conversation, the woman was made to download a video calling app and then an online investigation was started.
The display of CBI Crime was also visible. Some people in uniform were visible in the background. After this, after pretending to investigate, these fraudsters told that the victim’s ID had been used in many illegal activities like drug supply, money laundering and other places. Further investigation is being done and she was asked not to disconnect the video call in the inquiry. After this, the fraud kept the woman under digital arrest for about 4 hours in the name of interrogation and by threatening her, got her transfer Rs 84.16 lakh to his account. Caution for everyone.
