New Delhi : The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has intensified measures to control air pollution across national highways and expressways in Delhi-NCR ahead of the winter season. The authority has deployed around 60 water sprinklers and tankers, 14 anti-smog guns, 23 mechanical road sweeping machines (MRSMs), two tractor-mounted broomers and more than 900 workers for dust mitigation. Additionally, 13 mechanical road sweeping machines are operating across 157 km of national highway stretches within Delhi-NCR. NHAI Member (Technical) Alok Deepankar reviewed the arrangements and directed field teams to ensure full deployment of equipment and manpower, regular water sprinkling, daily mechanical sweeping and compliance with the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) norms, including applicable Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) measures.

NHAI steps up pollution-control efforts across Delhi-NCR, deploying specialised equipment and manpower to reduce road dust and improve air quality ahead of winter.
The review also covered major decongestion projects, including UER-II, Dwarka Expressway, DND-Sohna Expressway and the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, which are aimed at easing traffic congestion and reducing vehicular emissions across Delhi-NCR. NHAI emphasised the need to expedite proposed decongestion projects and promptly resolve public complaints received through the Green Delhi app and social media platforms. With pollution levels typically becoming a major concern during winter, the authority said it remained committed to reducing dust pollution, improving air quality and ensuring smoother traffic movement across the region.
