Greater Noida West: 5 months ago more than 1000 people fell ill due to a supply of degraded water in Supertech Ecovillage-2, a society in Greater Noida West. The same situation has occurred once again in the last three days. Hundreds of individuals including children, the elderly and women in more than 4 societies of Greater Noida West, including Supertech Ecovillage-1, Arihant Ardent, Panchsheel Hainish, Havelia Valencia, are showing symptoms like loose motion, vomiting and fever.
The figure can go beyond 500
According to the information received, in most of the houses in these four societies, one or two people are ill, according to this, the figure can go beyond 500. Many people even had to be admitted to the hospital. In view of the increasing danger, tanks are being cleaned in these societies but that is insufficient. People are being advised to drink boiled water at home.
Such a case came to light last year
In September last year, a similar case came to light in Eco Village-2 Society of Greater Noida West. More than 1,000 people fell sick after drinking contaminated water. Children were also among the sick people, who were admitted to different hospitals for treatment. It was told that the society’s tank was cleaned with chemicals. The chemical tank was not cleaned completely. This is why people fell sick. The people of the society managed by getting water from outside.
Take these measures to avoid contaminated water:
Boil the water.
If water cannot be boiled, use odorless household chlorine bleach or iodine.
Before disinfecting the water, let the particles present in it settle down.
Use paper towels, clean clothes, or paper coffee filters to filter the water.
Pregnant women, people suffering from thyroid problems, or people allergic to iodine should not drink water disinfected with iodine.
If the water is contaminated with any chemical, disinfectants will not be able to make it drinkable
Precautions to avoid waterborne diseases
Ensure that the water is visibly clean and free of any contaminants. Filter the water to remove visible dirt.
Drink only clean and safe water – either water filtered through portable water or water cleanser.
Get water purifying equipment like filters, RO units, etc. serviced regularly. Ensure that stored water is bacteria-free.
Add an antiseptic liquid like Dettol to bath water that looks suspicious.
Use disposable glasses and plates whenever possible when eating out, especially street food.
Avoid eating stale cooked food, unrefrigerated food kept open for long periods.
Get vaccinated against preventable diseases like typhoid, polio, hepatitis A, etc.
