Apple plans to employ A18 CPUs in the iPhone 16 series, but in several configurations | Tech News

Apple, Apple phones, iPhones
According to MacRumors, Apple will include the same processor in all four of the next iPhone 16 series models: the iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and Pro Max. This would be different from the iPhone 15 series, where the Pro and base devices had different processors. The model numbers for the upcoming iPhones have surfaced online, suggesting that Apple would not distinguish between the processors in the iPhone 16 series’ base and Pro versions.
According to the source, Apple has internally listed the new iPhone models with the same model number prefix, “17.” The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max featured a “16” prefix in the iPhone 15 series, but the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus had a “15” prefix. After then, Apple revealed that the A17 Pro chips will power the iPhone 15 Pro models, while the A16 Bionic chips would power the regular ones. MacRumors has reported that the iPhone 16 series may bring about a change in this regard.

Possible distinction made possible by GPU cores

Even though the new A18 CPU is anticipated to be used in all four iPhone 16 models, Apple may choose to distinguish the Pro models by adding additional Graphic Processing Unit (GPU) cores. This tactic might aid in setting the Pro models apart from the common iPhone 16 versions. Furthermore, Apple may refer to the processor in the Pro variants as the A18 Pro.

iPhone SE

The article also states that a fifth iPhone model—likely the much-anticipated iPhone SE—is included in Apple’s internal statistics. Additionally, this model includes the prefix “17,” indicating that it will share a processor with the other four iPhone 16 series phones. If this is true, Apple may use the new chips’ processing capability to give the iPhone SE cutting-edge artificial intelligence features.
