Greater Noida West: A fresh incident of plaster falling from the ceiling of a residential flat in Gaur city once again raised serious concerns about the structural safety of high-rise residential societies in Noida and Greater Noida. The incident has reignited the debate over construction quality and maintenance standards in premium housing projects where residents have invested crores of rupees to own their dream homes.

According to residents, a large portion of plaster suddenly detached from the ceiling of a flat in Gaur City and crashed onto the floor. Fortunately, no one was present at the spot when the incident occurred, preventing what could have turned into a major tragedy. However, the event has left residents worried about the safety of their families and the condition of aging residential towers.

Residents Question Maintenance and Construction Quality

The latest incident comes just days after a fatal accident in Arihant Amber Society, where a resident lost his life following a structural failure-related incident. Residents allege that despite repeated complaints regarding cracks, seepage, deteriorating plaster and other structural issues, timely repairs are often not carried out.

Many homeowners have expressed frustration, saying that people spend their life savings to purchase homes in reputed housing projects but begin facing serious construction-related problems within a few years of possession.

“Homebuyers invest crores of rupees expecting safety and quality, but incidents like these create constant fear among residents,” said a resident of the society.

Demand for Structural Audits and Accountability

Following recent incidents across multiple housing societies, residents are demanding regular structural audits of high-rise buildings to identify potential risks before they result in accidents. They believe that issuing notices and conducting preliminary inspections alone will not be enough to address the problem.

After the Arihant Amber tragedy, authorities had spoken about conducting structural audits of older and deteriorating buildings in the district. However, residents argue that concrete action and accountability are required to ensure long-term safety.

Fear Growing Among Families

Residents across Noida and Greater Noida say that builders often market projects on the promise of superior construction quality and world-class amenities. However, recurring issues such as water seepage, cracks in walls and ceilings and falling plaster have raised doubts about the durability of several residential complexes.

The growing number of such incidents has created anxiety among families living in high-rise apartments, particularly those with children and elderly members.

Residents Seek Immediate Intervention

Residents have urged the administration and development authorities to conduct periodic inspections of residential societies and take strict action wherever construction deficiencies or maintenance lapses are found. They believe that proactive monitoring and accountability are essential to prevent future accidents and ensure the safety of thousands of families living in high-rise communities.

As concerns over structural safety continue to mount, residents are hoping that authorities will move beyond inspections and take meaningful steps to restore confidence in the region’s residential infrastructure.
