Greater Noida West: A fire broke out in Flat 1803 of Tower 3 at Capital Athena, a residential society in Sector 1, Greater Noida West, triggering serious concerns among residents over the functioning of the society’s fire safety systems. According to residents, the blaze caused extensive damage to the affected family’s home and lifelong savings.
The incident has renewed questions about fire safety preparedness at the society, particularly in view of a fire department inspection reportedly conducted on August 27, 2026. Residents allege that several deficiencies had been identified during the inspection but question why effective action was not taken against the builder.
Residents have demanded an immediate investigation into the incident, accountability for the alleged lapses and strict action against the builder’s management and maintenance agency.
Residents allege multiple fire safety systems failed
According to residents, several critical fire safety installations did not function during the fire. They have raised concerns over the alleged failure of the following systems:
- Smoke detectors: Residents claim that the smoke detectors did not activate when the fire broke out.
- Fire alarm: They allege that the fire alarm failed to sound, preventing timely alerts to occupants.
- Sprinkler system: According to residents, the overhead sprinklers failed to release water and the firefighting pipelines were dry.
- Main fire pump: Residents further claim that the main fire pump did not start when occupants attempted to control the blaze.
If confirmed, these failures could raise serious questions about the maintenance and operational readiness of the society’s firefighting infrastructure.
Residents have demanded a comprehensive inspection of all towers, including the fire alarms, smoke detectors, sprinklers, firefighting pumps and water supply systems, to ensure that emergency equipment functions properly.
Questions raised over August 27 fire audit
Residents have pointed to a fire department inspection reportedly conducted on August 27, 2026. They claim that the inspection identified serious deficiencies in the society’s fire safety arrangements and that directions were issued to address them.
However, residents allege that the builder failed to rectify the shortcomings and question why punitive action was not taken despite the reported findings.
They have demanded that the authorities make the inspection report available, establish whether the deficiencies were subsequently addressed and investigate whether the builder and maintenance agency complied with the department’s directions.
The inspection report and the fire department’s official response were not available in the information provided by the residents. The allegations require independent verification.
Residents accuse builder of failing to address previous safety concerns
Residents have alleged that the builder did not take adequate corrective measures despite previous fire-related concerns and the reported inspection findings.
They argue that the latest incident has exposed the need for urgent intervention rather than further assurances. According to them, the failure of essential firefighting systems, if established, could place the lives of residents across the society at risk.
Residents have called for the builder and maintenance agency to be held accountable for any lapses established during the investigation.
Previous fire in Tower 8 also raises concerns
Residents have also recalled a fire incident in 2024 in Flat 503 of Tower 8, which they claim caused extensive damage to another family’s home and belongings.
They contend that the recurrence of a major fire has raised questions about whether lessons were learnt from the earlier incident and whether adequate preventive measures were implemented.
Residents are now seeking a detailed review of fire safety compliance across the society to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Residents also raise concern over alleged lift shutdown
In a separate allegation, residents have claimed that lifts across the society’s towers were shut down for approximately 14 hours overnight following objections and questions about fire safety arrangements.
They said the alleged shutdown caused difficulties for elderly residents and children. The circumstances surrounding the incident and the reasons for the reported disruption require verification.
The builder’s response to these allegations was not available at the time of preparing this report.
Demand for FIR against builder and maintenance agency
Residents have demanded immediate action following the latest fire. Their key demands include:
- An impartial investigation into the fire and the alleged failure of firefighting equipment.
- Registration of an FIR against the builder and maintenance agency if evidence establishes criminal negligence.
- Verification of the August 27, 2026, fire inspection report and compliance with the directions issued by the authorities.
- A comprehensive fire safety audit of all towers at Capital Athena.
- Strict action against the individuals or agencies found responsible for any violations.
- Immediate repairs and regular monitoring to ensure that all fire safety systems remain operational.
Residents have also appealed to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for urgent intervention, citing concerns about the safety of the 600–700 families living in the society.
Safety of 600–700 families at stake
The latest fire has brought fire safety and emergency preparedness at Capital Athena into focus. Residents say that ensuring the safety of families must be the immediate priority and have called for accountability from the builder, maintenance agency and concerned authorities.
They have urged the administration to investigate the incident, verify the alleged equipment failures and ensure that corrective measures are implemented without delay.
For residents, the central question remains whether the reported safety deficiencies were addressed after the August 27 inspection and what steps will now be taken to prevent another fire-related emergency.
