The proposed underground corridor could cut travel time between Dwarka and Connaught Place to around 25 minutes with just five stations

Delhi News: The primary objective of the corridor is to provide a faster and more direct connection between the western suburbs of Delhi and the central business district.
Delhi News: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a proposed 20-kilometre high-speed underground Metro corridor connecting Yashobhoomi in Dwarka Sector 25 with Rajiv Chowk in Connaught Place, aiming to significantly reduce travel time between west Delhi and the city centre.
The proposed corridor, which will serve as an extension of the existing Airport Express Line, is expected to improve connectivity among the Yashobhoomi India International Convention and Expo Centre, the rapidly developing Dwarka sub-city, and central Delhi.
Five Underground Stations Planned
According to the DPR, the proposed route will feature five strategically located underground stations, positioned near major residential and institutional hubs to maximise passenger ridership.
The key project details are as follows:
| Project Component | Details |
|---|---|
| Route Length | Approximately 20 km |
| Metro Type | High-speed underground metro |
| Planned Stations | Five underground stations |
| Route | Yashobhoomi (Dwarka Sector 25) to Rajiv Chowk |
| Project Agency | Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) |
| Estimated Travel Time | Reduced to around 25 minutes |
The primary objective of the corridor is to provide a faster and more direct connection between the western suburbs of Delhi and the central business district.
At present, commuters travelling from outer Dwarka to Connaught Place typically rely on congested road networks or longer journeys via the Blue Line.
According to reports, the proposed high-speed corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Yashobhoomi and Rajiv Chowk to less than 25 minutes, offering a faster alternative for daily commuters, business travellers and visitors to the convention centre.
Officials believe the direct connection will also reduce pressure on Delhi’s road network while improving access to one of the capital’s largest convention and exhibition venues.
Engineering And Approval Process Underway
The DPR states that funding approvals and statutory clearances are being expedited by the concerned authorities.
DMRC engineers have already completed preliminary soil investigations and alignment studies to ensure the proposed route does not conflict with existing underground utilities and infrastructure.
Since the entire corridor will pass beneath densely populated urban areas, construction is proposed to be carried out using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) to minimise disruption to road traffic and surface activities.
Potential Impact On Real Estate
The proposed Metro corridor is also expected to influence the real estate market across the National Capital Region (NCR).
According to industry estimates, areas along the proposed alignment, particularly Dwarka and adjoining parts of Gurugram, have already witnessed increased interest from homebuyers and investors following news of the project.
Property consultants say improved connectivity could boost demand for residential developments in Dwarka and along the Dwarka Expressway, while residential plots and housing projects in neighbouring Gurugram sectors may also benefit from enhanced Metro access.
A New Link Between West Delhi And The City Centre
If approved, the Yashobhoomi-Rajiv Chowk corridor will become a key addition to Delhi Metro’s high-speed network by extending the Airport Express Line further into the heart of the capital.
The project is expected to strengthen connectivity between residential neighbourhoods, commercial districts and the international convention centre, while easing congestion on existing transport corridors and supporting future urban development across the NCR.
The proposed corridor is currently at the Detailed Project Report (DPR) stage and is awaiting the necessary approvals before construction can begin.
