The decision to cut the school holidays has been made to meet the minimum working days of 200 days for Classes I to V and 220 days for Classes Vi to VIII. The Durga Puja school holidays have been reduced to three days, which was earlier six days. Also, there is a one-day holiday each for Diwali and Chitragupta Puja and two days for Chhath Puja.
The decision has been strongly criticised by the opposition parties. The Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Giriraj Singh wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “The holidays for Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath Puja have been canceled by the Education Department, Government of Bihar. Tomorrow it is possible that Sharia will be implemented in Bihar and there will be a ban on celebrating Hindu festivals.”
Teachers in the Kishanganj district on Wednesday staged protests against the government’s decision to cancel the school holidays for Raksha Bandhan.
