Adani Total Gas Ltd, in partnership with TotalEnergies, has begun blending 2.2-2.3% green hydrogen into piped natural gas supplies in Ahmedabad. This initiative aims to reduce emissions and support net-zero targets by providing cleaner energy for households and industries.
How It Works
Green hydrogen is generated through electrolysis using renewable energy sources like wind and solar. The blended gas offers lower emissions compared to traditional natural gas, benefiting around 4,000 domestic and commercial consumers in Shantigram.
Future Plans
Adani Total Gas plans to increase the hydrogen blend to 5% and eventually 8%, expanding beyond Shantigram to other regions. This project positions the company as a leader in the growing hydrogen market, showcasing a commitment to sustainability.
Challenges and Impact
While the initiative marks a significant step towards cleaner energy, challenges such as hydrogen’s corrosive properties remain. However, research indicates that blends of up to 10% can be safely managed.
As the energy sector pivots towards renewables, Adani’s green hydrogen blending project sets a benchmark for sustainable practices, paving the way for a cleaner future.
