Greater Noida: A large open pit, left unattended for the past 10–15 days in Sector Beta-1, has triggered fear and anger among residents. The pit, located in front of houses C-14 and C-38, is considered a serious safety hazard, with locals warning that it could lead to a major accident if not addressed immediately.
Residents allege that despite the prolonged exposure of the pit, the concerned department has failed to take any concrete action. The situation has raised questions about civic accountability and the responsiveness of authorities.
RWA raises alarm over rising accidents
RWA General Secretary Harinder Bhati expressed deep concern over the issue, stating that such negligence is becoming a recurring problem across Greater Noida. He pointed out that incidents involving open pits have been increasing, often resulting in injuries and, in some cases, fatalities.
People are either losing their lives or suffering serious injuries after falling into such pits, yet officials, staff and contractors of the Greater Noida Authority appear to be waiting for a major mishap before acting.

Recent accidents highlight pattern of negligence
The concern gains weight in light of recent incidents. A major accident was reported in Noida Sector 94, while a similar case had earlier emerged from Sector 150, both linked to unsafe open pits. Despite these warnings, residents say preventive measures remain inadequate.
Night-time risk, Lack of safety measures
Residents emphasise that the danger intensifies at night due to poor lighting and the absence of warning signs. Children, elderly residents and pedestrians are particularly vulnerable, making daily movement in the area risky.
Demand for immediate action
The RWA has demanded that Greater Noida be made “pit-free” at the earliest. It has also called for strict action against officials responsible for the negligence. Immediate filling of open pits and enforcement of safety protocols have been urged to prevent further incidents.
With public pressure mounting and safety concerns escalating, the focus now shifts to how quickly the Greater Noida Authority responds to this growing civic issue.
