Noida: The absence of a formal public transport system in Noida has once again come under sharp criticism, with the DDRWA Federation raising the issue before the Noida Authority. In a letter addressed to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Noida Authority, Dr Lokesh M. the federation highlighted the growing hardships faced by city residents due to the persistent lack of public transportation facilities.
According to the federation, Noida, despite being a major urban centre located alongside the national capital Delhi, has failed to introduce a structured public transport system even after 49 years of its establishment. The situation, they said, stands in stark contrast to other developed cities across the country where public transport is an essential civic service.
The DDRWA Federation stated that for the past two years, the Noida Authority has repeatedly assured residents that public transport services would be launched soon. However, these promises have not translated into action, leaving citizens dependent on expensive and unsafe alternatives.
In the absence of buses or other organized transport, residents are forced to rely heavily on e-rickshaws and tempos, which have proliferated across the city. The federation warned that this unregulated system has led to frequent road accidents, resulting in numerous fatalities. They added that even travelling short distances has become costly for residents, increasing the daily financial burden on families.
The federation has sought clarity from the Noida Authority on when public transport services will finally be introduced and what obstacles are preventing their implementation. Emphasizing the urgency of the matter, the DDRWA Federation urged the CEO to take concrete and immediate steps to resolve the issue.
Reaffirming its willingness to cooperate, the federation stated that it is ready to extend full support to the Noida Authority in planning and implementing a public transport system for the city. The letter was signed by N.P. Singh, President and Sanjeev Kumar, Senior Vice President of the DDRWA Federation, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh. Residents hope that the renewed demand will prompt decisive action, bringing long-awaited relief to lakhs of commuters in Noida.
