Thane to Dombivali in 25 minutes: Plan is to build a four-lane railway flyover at the Retibandar Motagaon railway crossing, which will be connected to Mankoli flyover in Dombivli

Among the several projects being taken up in Thane district, this one is expected to facilitate Thane to Dombivli road travel in 25 minutes.
The plan is to build a four-lane railway flyover at the Retibandar Motagaon railway crossing, which will be connected to the Mankoli flyover in Dombivli, according to News18 Lokmat.
The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has already sent the proposal to the state government for funding approval, which is expected soon, reported The Times of India.
Project details
A budget of Rs 168 crore has been proposed for this flyover project, with Rs 30 crore for land acquisition and the remaining Rs 138 crore for construction, according to News18 Lokmat.
A total of 600 residents will need to be relocated for this project.

How will the project help?
While going to or returning from the office, travelers from Thane to Dombivli or beyond often faced traffic snarls.
Currently, it takes about an hour to travel between Thane and Dombivli. With the flyover, the Thane-Dombivli trip will take just 25 minutes, saving residents 35 minutes.
Why the spot?
For many years, the Motagaon railway crossing has been a major obstacle. Initially, the plan was for a two-lane bridge, but due to increasing traffic, it was decided to build a four-lane flyover. This will keep traffic smooth for the next few years and prevent new jams.

What led to the move?
The decision comes in the wake of persistent demand of citizens and local leaders, including former Sena (UBT) corporator Dipesh Mhatre.
Once approved, the project is expected to improve connectivity and ease congestion for thousands of commuters travelling between Dombivli and Thane.
