Greater Noida: Over three lakh litres of additional water has been supplied daily to more than 100 housing societies this festive season, twice the supply compared to last year. Earlier, only 1 to 1.5 lakh litres were provided during festivals, which often led to shortages.

Each year, Greater Noida West faces a water crisis during festivals due to increased household needs. Residents are compelled to arrange private tankers, sometimes numbering 50 to 150, which puts extra financial strain on them. Despite that, many homes still remained without adequate water.

This year, the Greater Noida Authority ensured an uninterrupted water supply from Diwali to Chhath Puja, bringing relief to over five lakh residents. The authority also operated its borewells for an additional three to four hours every day to meet the increased demand.

Residents said that festival preparations led to higher water consumption for cleaning and other activities.

We had to raise complaints on social media every year, but the water supply was still insufficient. This time, the arrangements were excellent. No resident had to struggle for basic water needs.

Officials from the Water Department said that in Greater Noida West, over 50 private Chhath ghats were created by local committees. This year, the authority also provided over one lakh litres of water to these ghats. Multiple days of continuous supply ensured that devotees could comfortably offer morning and evening ‘arghya’ to the Sun God while standing in water.
