Dadri: Once infamous for a political landscape dominated by guns and muscle power, the Dadri Assembly constituency today reflects a remarkable transformation driven by education-centric and development-oriented leadership. At the center of this shift stands BJP MLA Tejpal Singh Nagar, popularly known as “Master Tejpal”, whose journey from the classroom to the Assembly has become a story of change.
Early life and educational roots
Born on 12 October 1953 in Akeelpur Jagir village of Gautam Buddh Nagar district, Nagar holds a postgraduate degree. He served as the principal of Sant Vinoba Inter College in Vedpura—an experience that deeply shaped his outlook. Even after stepping into politics, education remained his top priority, and he never allowed the dignity of the teaching profession to fade.
A political career that redefined dadri
After nearly a decade of active involvement in local politics, Nagar contested the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and won from Dadri. His victory signalled the public’s desire for a political shift. In 2022, he strengthened his hold further by winning again with 218,068 votes, reinforcing his political stature. Nagar’s financial profile indicates a balanced and transparent public life, with assets worth ₹5.9 crore, including ₹5.5 crore in immovable property.
Loyalty that paid off
During the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Nagar’s strong support for Dr. Mahesh Sharma helped him secure goodwill within the BJP. Despite internal attempts to cut his ticket in 2022, Sharma’s active backing ensured his candidature remained intact. In party circles, Nagar is known for unwavering loyalty, a trait that worked in his favour.
Not an Abhimanyu, But an Arjun
During recent elections, opponents embraced the Samrat Mihir Bhoj statue controversy to target Nagar. While protests and allegations intensified, he remained restrained and stated that he would accept whatever verdict the public delivered. The result? A massive victory by 1,38,218 votes, a political message that silenced his critics.
Development work in nine years
The people of Dadri have sent Nagar to the Assembly twice, and he, in turn, has attempted to justify their trust:
- Addressed road and civic infrastructure issues
- Intervened in farmers’ land lease cases
- Cleared the long-pending Dadri Railway Road reconstruction
- Initiated a Government Degree College on the Jarcha–Khoda route
- Laid the foundation for a community center costing ₹234 lakh
- Launched construction works worth ₹74 lakh in two phases
Pushed for registry facilities, upgraded health services, and modern crematoriums in Greater Noida West
Currently, he is advocating for:
- Metro extension into the region
- A major government hospital
- Improved connectivity via new bypass links to the Eastern Peripheral Expressway
His proposals aim to reduce travel time and ease congestion for thousands of daily commuters.
A mentor beyond politics
Before becoming a legislator, Nagar taught thousands of local students, many of whom now hold influential positions and still seek guidance. His bond with the youth has earned him the image of a mentor, not just an elected representative.
