Microsoft Allows Users to Customise the Copilot Key on Windows 11 Beta: Technology news | Tech News

Microsoft is working on enabling users to customise Windows 11’s Copilot key. The copilot key has started to show up on modern keyboards and laptops. On Windows 11, the Copilot key opens Microsoft’s Copilot app by default. However, the company is now testing the ability to allow it to launch other programs.

The customisation updates are included in a new Windows 11 beta version that testers can start using right now.

We are going to include the capability to customise the Copilot key. An app that satisfies security and privacy standards to protect users can be launched using the Copilot key if it is MSIX packed and signed. Until a user chooses an alternative experience, the key will keep launching Copilot on devices that have the Copilot app installed. reads the blog on Windows Insider.

To access this setting, users must first navigate to “Settings,” then “Personalisation,” and finally “Text Input.” There must be a Copilot key on the keyboard connected to the PC.

This is the biggest update to Windows keyboards in thirty years, with the goal of promoting its AI helper among Windows users.

New Copilot Plus PCs started to ship with the key earlier this year. However, with the most recent 24H2 update for Windows 11, Microsoft turned the Copilot experience into a web app, which diminished its effectiveness on these devices. Users are unable to use the AI assistant to change settings as the web app version is no longer part of the Windows 11 settings

The fact that Windows 11 beta testers were able to customise the Copilot key suggests that this feature would soon be accessible to all Windows 11 users.
