Noida: The spirit of joy, togetherness and wellness will take centre stage at the Community Centre in Sector 21, Noida, as the JVCC Laughter Club gears up to celebrate World Laughter Day 2026 on Sunday, May 3. The event will bring together hundreds of participants from Noida, Delhi, Gurugram and nearby regions under the global motto “World Peace Through Laughter.”

Founded by renowned physician Dr Madan Kataria in 1998, World Laughter Day is observed every year on the first Sunday of May. The movement promotes health, happiness and peace by encouraging people to laugh together beyond barriers of age, language or background.

Dr Kataria’s message continues to inspire millions across the world: “If people around you are not happy, they will not let you remain happy either. A large part of our happiness depends on our ability to spread happiness among others.”

This year’s celebration in Noida is expected to draw nearly 600 participants, including members of various laughter clubs and their families. Organisers said the gathering aims to spread positive emotions such as unconditional love, compassion, kindness, tolerance and forgiveness through collective laughter.

Event to feature laughter yoga, dance and health awareness

The programme will begin at 7 am at the JVCC lawns in Sector 21, Noida. The event will feature laughter yoga sessions, Bollywood dance performances, health talks, music and wellness activities.

Dr Ajay Swaroop, Chairman of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, will attend the programme as the chief guest. A special health talk on obesity and healthy living will also be delivered by Dr Tarun Mittal from the same hospital.

The celebration will also include:

  • Laughter yoga sessions
  • Song and dance performances
  • General health check-ups
  • Dietetics and nutrition stalls
  • Brochure release ceremony
  • Refreshments for participants
What is laughter yoga?

Laughter Yoga is a unique wellness exercise where participants laugh intentionally in a group setting without relying on jokes or comedy. Through eye contact, playful activities and breathing exercises, simulated laughter gradually turns into genuine, contagious laughter.

Organisers say the benefits can be experienced from the very first session, including stress reduction, improved mood and increased energy levels.

Journey of JVCC laughter club

The JVCC Laughter Club started in November 2014 at the Jalvayu Vihar Community Centre in Sector 21, Noida, with just 20 members. Over the years, it has grown into a strong community where around 70 to 80 members participate daily in 30-minute laughter sessions throughout the year without breaks.

According to the organisers, regular participation has helped members improve their health, develop a positive outlook and build stronger social bonds.

The club’s activities have now expanded beyond Jalvayu Vihar, attracting residents from different parts of Noida and the NCR. Members also conduct laughter yoga sessions during family visits, vacations and even international trips. Sessions are additionally organised in schools, corporate offices, hospitals and NGOs.
