Greater Noida West: As temperatures continue to dip across the city, residents are increasingly complaining about dry, itchy and flaky skin. Winters in the region tend to pull moisture from the air and from our skin, making proper skincare more important than ever.

To help the community stay healthy and comfortable this season, Dr. Ajit P Agrawal, MBBS, MD, Physician & Preventive Medicine Specialist, Senior Consultant, GTB Hospital Delhi, who also runs his clinic at Mahagun Mywoods, has shared essential winter skincare guidelines that are simple yet highly effective.

Moisturize within 3 minutes of bathing

Dr. Agrawal stresses that applying moisturizer to slightly damp skin traps hydration more effectively.

This 3-minute rule helps lock in the maximum moisture, especially when the skin barrier is already dry in winter.

Shift to thicker creams or ointments

According to Dr. Agrawal, lotions often fail to provide adequate moisture during winter.

I recommend thick, fragrance-free creams containing ceramides, hyaluronic acid, shea butter or glycerin.
“Oil is good, but thick creams are better for repairing the winter-damaged skin barrier.

Avoid hot water showers

While hot showers feel comforting, they strip the skin’s natural oils.

I advise choosing lukewarm water to prevent worsening dryness.

Add hydrating foods to your diet

Hydration isn’t just external.

Include nuts, seeds, avocados and ghee and also drink enough water throughout the day. These healthy fats support skin repair from within.

Use gentle cleansers only

Harsh soaps can damage the skin barrier further.

I recommends mild, moisturizing cleansers that cleanse without over-drying.

Consider using a humidifier indoors

Indoor heating and dry air can worsen skin irritations.

A humidifier helps maintain a balanced moisture level at home, reducing dryness-related issues.

Protect skin when stepping outdoors

Scarves, gloves, and lip balm act as essential shields against cold winds. Protecting exposed skin prevents chapping and windburn.
