WhatsApp is taking its Status feature to the next level with a series of new updates aimed at enhancing user interaction and privacy. The Meta-owned messaging platform now allows users to like status updates, make private mentions, and reshare statuses—features that make connecting with friends and family even more seamless.
Like Status Updates with One Tap
One of the most exciting additions is the ability to like status updates. With just a single tap, you can now show your appreciation for someone’s status. The best part? These likes are private, meaning only the person who posted the status can see them in their list of viewers. This new feature makes it easier to acknowledge someone’s update without the need for a full conversation.
Private Mentions and Tagging in Statuses
In addition to likes, WhatsApp now enables users to mention and tag other accounts directly in their status updates. You can tag up to five individuals per status, making it easier to loop in specific people. Those tagged in a status will receive a notification and can reshare that status directly to their own account.
But there’s a twist—WhatsApp is also introducing private mentions, allowing users to tag someone without revealing their name in the status. The person mentioned will still be notified but won’t be publicly visible to others. This feature adds an extra layer of privacy to conversations, ensuring your messages reach the right people without making it public.
More Features on the Horizon
According to a recent blog post, WhatsApp stated, “We’re making it easier to stay connected with the people who matter most. With status likes, private mentions, and the ability to reshare a status you’re mentioned in, reaching out has never been simpler.” These features, already familiar to Instagram users, are now rolling out on WhatsApp and will be available to all users in the coming days.
WhatsApp further hinted at additional features coming soon. “We’ll be bringing more features to Status and the Updates tab over the next few months to make it easier to stay closest to those who matter most,” the platform added.
New Video Call Features
In addition to the Status updates, WhatsApp has rolled out new video call features, including camera filters and customizable backgrounds. You can now change your background during a call or apply a filter to enhance your appearance. With Touch Up and Low Light options, WhatsApp ensures you look your best, no matter the lighting conditions.
