Noida: Serious questions are being raised over the deteriorating condition of public healthcare infrastructure after a recent visit to Sector 39 Government Hospital in Noida exposed alarming shortcomings in basic facilities.

Patients visiting the hospital, many of them from economically weaker backgrounds, are being forced to navigate unhygienic surroundings, poor lighting and unsafe infrastructure. The situation reflects systemic negligence in a facility meant to provide essential healthcare services.

No sanitation, No hygiene

Kavita Jamil, Resident of Arun Vihar, Architect & Interior Designer and Social Activist of Noida who visited this place explains that this place needs critical cleanliness.

“One of the most concerning observations was the complete lack of proper sanitation and hygiene inside the hospital premises. Corridors appeared unclean and poorly maintained, raising concerns about infection risks in a space where cleanliness is critical.”

Kavita Jamil

In a government hospital where hundreds of patients visit daily, sanitation is not optional; it is fundamental to public safety.

Poor lighting inside hospital premises

Kavita Jamil also reported inadequate lighting in hospital corridors and on different floors.

“Dimly lit passageways not only create inconvenience but also pose safety risks, especially for elderly patients, children and those with mobility issues. You can’t take photos the basement is totally dark and smells”

Kavita Jamil

She suggests that healthcare facilities are expected to maintain basic infrastructure standards. Poor lighting inside a functioning government hospital points to deeper administrative lapses.

Parking area in deplorable condition

The condition of the parking area was equally disturbing. Water leakage from overhead pipes, stagnant dirty water, foul smell and unsafe surroundings were clearly visible.

“Such an environment is not just unpleasant but potentially hazardous. Stagnant water can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes and infections, adding another public health risk outside a facility meant to treat illness.”

A question of accountability

Patients come to government hospitals with hope and trust. When basic infrastructure collapses, it erodes public confidence in the healthcare system.

Residents are now urging authorities to take immediate corrective action and conduct a thorough inspection of the hospital’s sanitation, electrical maintenance and infrastructure management systems.

The issue demands urgent intervention from the district administration and state health authorities. Public healthcare is not a privilege; it is a right.

Call for immediate action

Residents of Noida are appealing to the Uttar Pradesh government and local administration to address these shortcomings without delay.

The condition of Sector 39 Government Hospital raises a broader question: Is this the standard of public healthcare that citizens are expected to accept?

For the sake of public health, dignity and safety, corrective measures must be implemented at the earliest.

Public healthcare facilities must inspire confidence, not concern.
