Noida : A short circuit in the lift of Tower CS6 at Cape Town, Sector 74, Noida, caused smoke to fill the lift cabin on September 28, 2025. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. The lift, installed and maintained by Thyssenkrupp, is part of the society’s annual maintenance contract, reportedly costing over ₹1 crore. Despite this, the lift’s malfunction has raised concerns among residents about safety standards.

Residents Express Fear and Anger

The incident has created widespread fear and anger among the residents of Tower CS6 and the wider Cape Town Society. Many residents expressed dissatisfaction that, even after the Lift Act was implemented in Uttar Pradesh, such safety lapses continue to occur.

Background of Lift Safety in Noida

Noida has seen multiple lift-related safety incidents in recent years. For instance, a lift in Urbtech NPX, Sector 153, got stuck for nearly 30 minutes, leaving several residents, including senior citizens, trapped. In another tragic case in Sector 137, a lift brake failure resulted in a fatality. These incidents highlight the urgent need for stricter adherence to safety standards and regular maintenance checks, even when hefty annual contracts are paid to reputed lift companies.

Official Response Pending

As of now, the Apartment Owners Association of Cape Town Sector 74 has not issued any official statement regarding the incident. Residents are demanding immediate action and assurance that such incidents will not recur.
