Noida: A case of theft targeting public infrastructure has surfaced in Sector 117, where unidentified miscreants allegedly stole electrical components from streetlight control panels during the early hours of Tuesday. The incident occurred near Gate No. 03 and surrounding locations, raising concerns among residents about security and maintenance of civic utilities.
Theft reported around 2:44 am
According to information shared by the Sector-117 Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA), the incident occurred at approximately 2:44 a.m. on March 10, 2026. Thieves reportedly broke open four to five electrical panels installed for operating street lights and stole MCBs and other electronic components. These panels are used for the on-off control of street lighting systems installed by the Noida Authority, which are essential for maintaining proper illumination and safety in the sector.
Multiple locations targeted
Residents said the theft was not limited to a single spot. Similar incidents were reported:
- Near Gate No. 03 of Sector-117
- Close to the gaushala area towards Saurakh village
- At two other nearby locations where street light panels were tampered with
The coordinated nature of the theft suggests that the perpetrators deliberately targeted electrical infrastructure across several points in the sector.
Incident captured in rwa cctv camera
The theft near Gate No. 03 was reportedly captured on CCTV cameras installed by the RWA. The footage is expected to assist authorities in identifying the suspects and reconstructing the sequence of events. Residents said the cameras clearly recorded suspicious activity around the panel area during the early morning hours.
RWA writes to the authorities for immediate action
Following the incident, Sector-117 RWA President Advocate Kosinder Yadav, who is also the Joint Secretary of Fonrwa, has written to the Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority and the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Noida Zone) requesting immediate intervention. In the letter, the RWA urged authorities to initiate strict action against the culprits and strengthen surveillance to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Residents raise safety concerns
Residents expressed concern that such thefts can disrupt street lighting systems, potentially leaving stretches of roads dark at night and affecting public safety. They have demanded increased police patrolling and better protection of civic infrastructure. The RWA has requested the authorities to take prompt steps so that similar incidents do not occur again in the sector.
