Bulandshahr: A heart-wrenching tragedy has shaken the village of Farana in Bulandshahr district, where a promising state-level kabaddi player, Brajesh Solanki, lost his life after contracting rabies from a puppy bite. The shocking incident has sent waves of grief through the local sports community and raised urgent concerns about awareness and the need for timely medical action against rabies.

Bitten While Trying to Save a Puppy

According to locals, the incident occurred about a month ago when a stray puppy fell into a drain in Farana village, under Khurja Nagar Kotwali area. Brajesh, in a humane effort to rescue the puppy, was bitten on his finger during the process. Assuming it to be a minor wound, he did not seek medical attention or get the anti-rabies vaccination.

This single act of negligence proved fatal

Symptoms Appear Weeks Later

Nearly a month after the bite, Brajesh began showing severe symptoms of rabies—hydrophobia (fear of water), restlessness, and numbness. Alarmed, his family rushed him to Jeevan Jyoti Hospital in Aligarh. From there, he was referred to Aligarh Medical College, then to an Ayurvedic centre in Mathura, and finally to GTB Hospital in Delhi. However, by then, the virus had progressed beyond the point of treatment.

Doctors confirmed he was in the final stage of rabies, where survival is nearly impossible once symptoms appear.

Died En Route to Village, Final Moments Caught on Video

On June 27, 2025, while being brought back to his village by family members, Brajesh succumbed to the infection on the way. A distressing video of his final hours has surfaced on social media, showing him writhing in pain on a cot, unable to speak, with violent spasms overtaking his body—clear signs of advanced rabies. The footage has left viewers shocked and shaken.

A Promising Career Cut Short

Brajesh was a rising star in kabaddi. He had won a gold medal in a state-level tournament in February 2025 and was preparing for the upcoming Pro Kabaddi League in 2026. His untimely death has left his family, teammates, and the entire sports fraternity in deep mourning.

This is harsh reminder that no animal bite, however small, should be taken lightly.

Urgent Need for Rabies Awareness

This tragic incident underlines the deadly nature of rabies. According to health experts, rabies is a fatal viral infection primarily transmitted through the bite or scratch of an infected dog or other mammals. Immediate washing of the wound with soap and water, followed by administration of anti-rabies vaccine within 24 hours, is critical.

Once symptoms begin to appear, rabies becomes nearly incurable. Brajesh’s death is a grim reminder that a lack of awareness and medical negligence can lead to irreversible loss.

Health Department Responds with Emergency Measures

Following Brajesh’s death, the district health department swiftly took action. On June 28, a team led by District Surveillance Officer Dr. Ramit Kumar Singh visited Farana village. The team administered anti-rabies vaccines (ARV) to 29 people who had come in contact with Brajesh and launched a public awareness drive.

Dr. Singh urged residents to seek immediate medical attention after any dog, monkey, or wild animal bite and avail free vaccinations available at government hospitals.
