Noida: Ignoring the instructions of the Chief Executive Officer, horticulture waste was being dumped in the dumping yard proposed by the authority in Sector-117 for the last 5-7 days, whereas the CEO of Noida Authority on the request of RWA/117 and seeing the adverse effect it would have on lakhs of people in the vicinity, had ordered not to dump horticulture waste in 117. Despite this, garbage was being dumped there, which caught fire at around 8:00 am on March 30, 2025.

Residents are in the grip of severe smoke

Due to the strong wind blowing from the west, the smoke coming out of the fire made it difficult for the people living in Sector-117 and nearby high-rise societies, especially Unihomes-117, to breathe.

Elderlies are facing problems by inhaling infectious air

The effect of the smoke reached up to village Sauharkha, about 1.5 km from the dumping yard of Sector-117. Even in the distant village Sauharkha, especially the elderly had to face a lot of trouble.

The information was given to the fat 9.30 am, after which 4-5 fire brigade vehicles reached the spot and extinguished the fire. The fire has not been completely extinguished even by 5:00 pm today. Smoke is still coming out of the horticulture waste intermittently. This proposed dumping yard is posing a threat to the lives of lakhs of people living nearby. I don’t know why the concerned officials are hell-bent on playing with the lives of lakhs of people.

Koainder Yadav, RWA President

The fire incident in Sector 117 is a stark reminder of the authorities’ negligence and lack of concern for residents’ well-being. As President of NHRF, I demand that the Noida Authority takes immediate action to address this issue and ensures that such incidents don’t recur in the future.

Nikhil Singhal, President, NHRF

Did Noida Authority took permission from Pollution Department? On my RTI, Pollution Department, Noida gave me this information. The horticulture department of Noida Authority has not taken any permission from the department for the proposed dumping yard to be build in sector 117, 150, 58. There is no NOC taken so far. No visit of pollution department have been done nor asked for. Plus, the pollution department has not recived any complaint regarding this.

Amit Gupta, RTI Activist

RWA-117 once again requests the Chief Executive Officer of Noida Authority to please shift this dumping yard completely from here and build it somewhere far away from the residential sectors.
