Noida: Marking World Blood Donor Day, Radio Amity 107.8 FM organised a special awareness programme to educate listeners about the importance of voluntary blood donation and address common misconceptions surrounding the life-saving act.

Hosted by Piyush Singh, the programme featured an insightful discussion with Dr Nita Radhakrishnan and Dr Satyam Arora, who highlighted the significance of regular blood donation and its vital role in saving lives.

The experts described blood donation as one of the greatest humanitarian contributions, emphasising that thousands of patients across the country require blood every year for surgeries, accidents, cancer treatment and other medical emergencies. They encouraged healthy individuals to become voluntary blood donors and help bridge the gap between demand and availability.

During the discussion, the doctors clarified that blood donation is completely safe for healthy individuals and has no harmful effects on the body. They also noted that donors benefit from routine health screening conducted before donation, which provides valuable information about their overall health.

The experts explained the eligibility criteria for blood donation, stating that donors must have haemoglobin and blood pressure within the prescribed limits. Individuals with chronic conditions such as thyroid disorders or diabetes may also be eligible to donate blood if their condition is well managed and they receive medical clearance from their doctor.

Listeners were also informed about post-donation care. The doctors advised donors to drink plenty of fluids, consume nutritious food and avoid strenuous physical activity for a few hours after donating blood. Most donors can safely resume their normal daily routine within the same day.

The programme further highlighted that healthy men can generally donate blood every three months, while women may donate at appropriate intervals depending on their health status and medical advice.

Through this initiative, Radio Amity 107.8 FM aimed to increase public awareness about voluntary blood donation, dispel myths associated with the process and encourage more people to become regular blood donors.

The experts concluded the programme by appealing to all eligible citizens to come forward and donate blood, reminding listeners that a single donation can help save multiple lives.
